چکیده

CASPA is a stochastic process algebra tool for performance and dependability modelling, analysis and verification. It is based entirely on the symbolic data structure MTBDD (Multi-Terminal Binary Decision Diagram) which enables the tool to handle models with very large state space. This paper describes an extension of CASPA’s solving engine for path-based approximation of MTTFF (Mean Time To First Failure), MTTFR (Mean Time To First Recovery) and asymptotic unavailability by MTBDD algorithms. To keep the paper self-contained, we briefly recall a symbolic variant of the k-shortest-path algorithm of Azevedo et al., which works in conjunction with a symbolic variant of Dijkstra’s shortest path algorithm. A non-trivial case study illustrates the use of this kind of pathbased analysis and compares the path-based unavailability calculation to the results from standard Markovian analysis. This work is based on the paper Symbolic calculation of k-shortest paths and related measures with the stochastic process algebra tool CASPA [6]

Symbolic Performance and Dependability Evaluation with the Tool CASPA

This paper describes the tool CASPA, a new performance evaluation tool which is based on a Markovian stochastic process algebra. CASPA uses multi-terminal binary decision diagrams (MTBDD) to represent the labelled continuous time Markov chain (CTMC) underlying a given process algebraic specification. All phases of modelling, from model construction to numerical analysis and measure computation,...

CASPA: A Tool for Symbolic Performance and Dependability Evaluation

Symbolic data structures, such as binary decision diagrams (BDD) [1] and variants thereof have proved to be suitable for the efficient generation and compact representation of very large state spaces and transition systems. The key to such compact representation is the exploitation of the compositional structure of a given specification [2], [3]. It is also known that in addition to functional ...

Numerical Solution of Heun Equation Via Linear Stochastic Differential Equation

In this paper, we intend to solve special kind of ordinary differential equations which is called Heun equations, by converting to a corresponding stochastic differential equation(S.D.E.). So, we construct a stochastic linear equation system from this equation which its solution is based on computing fundamental matrix of this system and then, this S.D.E. is solved by numerically methods. Moreo...

CASPA: Symbolic model checking of stochastic systems

This note describes the new features of the performance evaluation tool CASPA, which has been extended by algorithms for the model checking of stochastic systems. CASPA uses stochastic process algebras as its input language. Multi-terminal binary decision diagrams (MTBDD) are employed to represent the transition system underlying a given process algebraic specification. The specification of per...

Scale-Freeness of SPA Models with Weighted Immediate Actions

Whenever a process algebra uses weights for specifying probabilities, it is desirable that the rescaling of a submodel’s weights by a constant factor does not affect the resulting overall model. A classical weighted approach, which is independent of rescaling weights in submodels, is the WSCCS approach by Tofts. The stochastic process algebra CASPA also uses weights, but the results are in gene...
